REFRESHER Course FOR DOOR SUPERVISORS

The SIA Refresher Training programme is designed for individuals currently employed as Door Supervisors who need to renew their licenses.

In response to significant changes introduced to SIA Licensing in April 2021, these updates have become an integral part of the daily routine for security professionals.

As part of the new licensing requirements, licensed security professionals are now mandated to undergo Refresher Upskill Training to ensure they possess the necessary knowledge and skills when renewing their SIA License.

Mastery of these fresh skills equips professionals to enhance their ability to safeguard the public, property and themselves effectively. Through SIA Refresher Training, individuals refine their expertise, thereby ensuring the safety of people against emerging risks.

The Door Supervisor Refresher course spans over a duration of two days and encompasses an array of essential topics. These include:

• Recognising Terrorism: In an ever-changing security landscape, it is imperative for Door Supervisors to stay vigilant and be able to identify signs of potential terrorist threats. This part of the course equips individuals with the knowledge and expertise needed to recognise and respond appropriately to such situations, ensuring public safety.
• Effective Crowd Control Techniques: Managing crowds is a fundamental aspect of a Door Supervisor’s role. This course delves into advanced crowd control techniques, enabling participants to maintain order and security in various situations, whether it’s at a concert, sporting event or any crowded gathering.
• Physical Intervention: Door Supervisors must be prepared to intervene physically when necessary, while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines. The course provides training on safe and effective physical intervention techniques, allowing professionals to handle confrontational situations with confidence and minimise harm to all parties involved.

The Door Supervisor Refresher course is structured into three distinct units, each designed to equip participants with vital knowledge and skills:

Unit 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry

• This unit focuses on recognising and responding to potential terrorist activity within public facing environments. It is delivered through the official ACT Awareness online training and must be completed prior to attending the classroom based training.

Unit 2: Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor

• This unit covers the correct and lawful use of equipment typically used by door supervisors, including communication devices and safety related equipment. Learners complete directed learning and are assessed via a multiple choice examination.

Unit 3: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

• This unit develops learners’ ability to use approved physical intervention techniques safely and proportionately. It is delivered through practical classroom instruction and is assessed via a multiple choice examination and observed practical assessments, which are subject to mandatory visual recording.
